Beware of the haters
By Preston Scott, We the People Rally Organizer
It had to happen.
I get hundreds of e-mail as host of a conservative talk show that has a decidedly biblical world view attached to it. Some electronic mail comes from booking agents trying to get their clients on the show (most of those head straight to the “deleted” file). Of the rest, a good 99 percent are overwhelmingly positive and/or supportive. Often my listeners send in story ideas or links to articles they want me to read and offer my analysis.
I try to respond to each one who honors me by taking the time to write. I cannot write everyone, but I make a good effort.
Now and then I get a nasty one. When those e-mails come, the notes are often riddled with typos and full of insane comments. There’s almost always one other similarity…such e-mails are invariably anonymous.
Just last night I got my first piece of “hate” mail from the “We the People Rally” Web site. Like the rest, it was nothing more than a bunch of angry, thoughtless ramblings. I was bitterly disappointed.
I love a good, hardy debate. If you have game on the philosophies that are leading our country astray and want to try and defend them, then bring it. But, that seldom happens.
Then, like the other mean-spirited e-mails, there’s the anonymity, which is so irritating. I know why the e-mailer chose to hide his/her name and e-mail address…embarrassment. This person’s friends, both of them, would be embarrassed that there wasn’t some kind of apology for the idiocy of liberalism they espouse; embarrassment that the note contained name-calling right out of the third grade (with apologies to third graders).
But, I write all that to communicate this…come next Thursday, April 15 do not get set-up at the rally by plants.
There are those that are frightened by the awakening masses and they are taking their cue from their mentors…the leadership in Congress.
Remember the Saturday before the passage of the health care bill?
Citizens opposed to the legislation arrived at our nation’s capital by the busload. They assembled and began lobbying their Congressional representatives by walking the halls of the House and the Senate. So, the aforementioned leaders (all from the left side of the aisle) decided to walk through the crowd of protesters. But, the key to the whole plan was that anchored just steps behind them, armed with video recording devices, were their staffers; minions with the mission of trying to capture anything they could that might discredit the protest.
Pelosi, Reid, and the rest tried to pick a fight. Citizens did not take the bait. But, their followers across the country will try the same thing. Be prepared…know going in that there could be folks holding outrageous, hateful signs hoping to get some publicity. Others could try to shout ridiculous expressions of contempt with the same goal.
Be vigilant and stay the course. Let’s be on our guard and our best behavior.
